A secondary processor, or CPU cores, can increase your computer's processing power. There is no need to overclock this processor, and in fact there is no need to offer a dual-processor system. Cupertino's design of a dual-processor system effectively doubled the processing power of Apple's highly marketed (and widely criticized) iPods. But when Apple advertised its new iPods as sporting five, six, or eight CPU cores, the true number was two. There was an additional two-core processor for the music to be processed for the iTunes application.
What this means is that, in the case of a single core-processor, you'd only be using half of the processor's processing power. Oftentimes, increasing speeds with turbo boost is not necessary for novice users, as the cost and effort of overclocking their CPU beyond that of therequiribrack of the CPU will often not return any significant amount ofperformance. Be careful, though, as overclocking your CPU can result in damage to the actual embedded chips, especially if you are going too far. If you don't knowwhether these risks are worth it, just do a bit of research to make sure youare ready for the increasesteps away from the stock speeds.
If your CPU can scale to the clock rate you want with its base and turbo clock settings, you may want to check to see if the design is capable of doing so without requiring a processor multiplier on the motherboard. This basically involves changing the CPU's multiplier, using an utility program to verify the changes, and observing the system for stability based on the multiplier that has been selected. The following images are shown to be larger then they actually are, so you can see the difference in the size of the multiplier bar. Do not forget tounset the cache to see if that changes anything. Sometimes, unsetting the cache can produce the wrongreading on the multiplier speed.
