I expected witchcraft to be magical, but I kind of thought I’d be more of a shaman or witch doctor for that reason. Although I’ve had the opportunity to practice shamanism and it was quite powerful, I was more drawn to the witchcraft path during my journey because lived experience and evidence-based practice is more concrete and logical to me. To sum it up, my path was rooted in technology and spirituality. I am still a vegan, which is very important to me. But, I no longer believe that someone’s dietary practices have to be reflective of their spiritual path. In fact, when groups of people started getting too involved in their spiritual practices and not really looking after what truly mattered, that’s when I believed was the time for someone who was sick of hearing people talk about the power of veganism to save the world and adopt veganism because it was “cool.” I just jettisoned that and just said to myself that not everyone who is vegan is a witch and not everyone who is vegan is a shaman, but, combined it makes a powerful force and it has been very influential in my life. Of course, my spiritual life has changed based on our experiences, relationships, and challenges we’ve faced together along the way, but, I no longer practice shamanism. I focus on the evidence-based application of the magical, and spirituality is but one aspect of the larger creation, and one that I have made a vow on my own life to be more protective of and not take for granted. So, that is what makes me a Witch and Witchcraft.
