From the very start, our main goal in making Gimp-Print was that it should work well on a Macintosh very quickly. We had already made a start on this by having the Mac version of Gimp-Print work with the PS Printer Panel, but we had to add and develop new code to build a FAT32 File System for the Photo Processor. It is a feature that is essential for most PPD's and the reason it took us quite a lot of time to deliver as it had to be done completely from scratch.

Another important new feature was to use the printing process with stdout (standard output) rather than the stdin (standard input) to receive the data and print/resolve/setup files. This has advantages for application developers and leaves the application untouched enough that they can choose whatever approach they want to use.

Another was to give more direct and simple access to printer fax functions. We did this for the first time simply by adding 3 buttons to the status bar with a tooltip that gave access to the fax functions that were built into the driver.

This release has been our last stab at supporting OS X natively with Gimp-Print. OS X use to be very active in using Gimp-Print for their printing needs and we hope the other OS X vendors will follow.
