They meet and spend the evening together. Joe is confident that in a couple of weeks, he'll be leaving for work. Maggie is less sure, and she gives Joe a second date - but only because she is a hard-working cop, and because she can't afford not to take advantage of those two weeks.
What primed them to go on the attack? Was that one of God's little jokes? Things tend to escalate quickly and the first casualties of this mass coup are a powerful Megadon and a pack of Raptors. The retreating Raptors leave a trail of blood.
In the morning, Joe and Maggie investigate the site of the battle. The foot prints are massive. "It needs to hurt," a young Megadon says. Joe suspects "something's wrong with their leaders. They're not acting like apex predators."
The next day, Joe and Maggie are called to an isolated building. The skin of one of the creatures has peeled away, revealing a baby or a fetus inside. Joe has to take a look, but Maggie rejects the idea. The animal's pregnant, although they don't yet know its age. d2c66b5586
